Removal of Phosphorus from Hypolimnetic Lake Water by Reactive Filter Material in a Recirculating System—Laboratory Trial

نویسندگان

چکیده

A toolbox of methods must be available for the remediation lakes and water bodies suffering from eutrophication. One method suggested is hypolimnetic withdrawal based on a closed-circuit system. Prior to start pilot-scale test at Lake Hönsan, Sweden, laboratory trial with containers filled bottom sediment this lake was performed. peristaltic pump distributed equal volume four columns, two glass beads filter material Polonite, then back surface containers. The reactive medium (RFM) removed phosphate (PO4-P) efficiently (98.6%), despite relatively low influent concentration (390 µg L?1). control column beads, 2.9% PO4-P. anoxic sediment, containing 2.47 mg P g?1, released PO4-P, which indicated by increased in near-bottom water. redirected after RFM filtration had high pH (x¯=11.1); however, an equalization took place mass lower but still value (x¯=8.7) compared (x¯=7.02). This article reports pros cons full-scale system using proposed method.

A numerical analysis of hypolimnetic nitrogen and phosphorus transformations in Lake Rotoiti, New Zealand: A geothermally influenced lake

Measurements of chlorophyll, oxygen, and particulate and dissolved forms of nitrogen and phosphorus made over a year were used in a one-dimensional diffusion model to calculate rates of generation or loss of these substances in the hypolimnion of Lake Rotoiti, New Zealand. During summer stratification the hypolimnion was always a sink for chlorophyll, particulate nitrogen (PN), particulate phos...

Assessment of a Continuous Electrocoagulation on Turbidity Removal from Spent Filter Backwash Water

Background & Aims of the Study: Spent filter backwash water (SFBW) consists of 1-5% of the total treated water typically and it has a high turbidity. Because of the scarcity of water resources and in order to prevent the environmental contamination, effluent treatment of rapid sand filter backwashing is unavoidable. One of the new technologies for removal of turbidity from the ...

Performance of Continuous Electrocoagulation Process for Turbidity Removal from Sand Filter Backwash Water

The presence of particles such as algae, clay, organic materials and water-soluble substances often create turbidity or color in water. In recent years, electrocoagulation process has attracted an extensive attention due to its advantages. Since sand filters are widely used in water treatment industry and their corresponding backwash water is large in volume, turbidity removal will save water c...
